PHNOM PENH – Germany and Cambodia have agreed to further cooperate on education, training and health sectors.

German Petitions Committee chairwoman Martina Stamm-Fibich, leading a German delegation, spoke of the intention during her meeting with Prime Minister Hun Manet on Feb. 28.

The visit was to strengthen the Cambodian-German relationship and cooperation which has lasted for more than five decades of diplomatic ties.

Stamm-Fibich said Germany is also lacking skilled  and health workers. Germany intends to further cooperate in education and human resource training with Cambodia.

The cooperation will also cover health because both sectors play an important role in the needs for citizens and benefits for both countries, Stamm-Fibich said.

Prime Minister Hun Manet indicated optimism about the cooperation, as the 7th mandate government is also focusing on boosting the economy based on human resources.

The government is also paying great attention to strengthening the health sector and educational and technical training to develop the socio-economy.

Praising the relationship, Hun Manet said Germany had contributed to Cambodia’s improvement after wars, especially on education, human resource building and democracy.

Stamm-Fibich’s visit will enhance the relationship in both executive and legislative frameworks, he added, hoping that the relation will deepen in future.

Both called on relevant institutions of the countries to further discuss and cooperate to prepare plans and measures for the cooperation on these two factors.
