Cambodia's Rice Export Falls 5.7 Pct in Q1

PHNOM PENH--Cambodia had exported 166,451 tonnes of milled rice in the first quarter of 2024, down 5.7 percent from 176,581 tonnes in the same period last year, said a Cambodia Rice Federation report on Friday.



It made a gross revenue of 123.6 million U.S. dollars from the export of the commodity during the January-March period this year, down 1.9 percent from the 126 million dollars a year earlier, the report said.



Some 46 exporters shipped Cambodia's milled rice to 56 countries and regions around the world, it added.



According to the report, the Southeast Asian country exported 43,039 tonnes of milled rice to China in the period, earning 28.1 million dollars.



The kingdom's exported rice and rice products include fragrant rice, white rice, parboiled rice, and organic rice, among others.



Commerce Minister Cham Nimul said that Cambodia has been exploring new markets for its rice, targeting countries that have free trade agreements with the kingdom.
