Yang Saing Koma Gets Government Posts

PHNOM PENH – Yang Saing Koma has been appointed to two new positions, including one at the Agriculture Ministry, following his defection to the ruling party. 



According to royal decrees dated Nov. 29, King Norodom Sihamoni appointed Koma as Secretary of State of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Koma also gets a minister attached to the prime minister post.



The King also appointed Loek Sothea, Koma’s close aide, as ministry undersecretary of state. All the appointments were at Prime Minister Hun Sen’s request.



Former Grassroot Democratic Party (GDP) leader Koma met Hun Sen on Nov. 28 to find ways to help farmers and promote the agricultural sector after he wrote asking to join the ruling Cambodian People’s Party along with Sothea, who was GDP spokesman.



During the meeting, Koma presented a 12-point plan to the Prime Minister to solve rice production and market problems which would help a million farmers if it succeeds. He has said the plan needs five years.
