Two-Day PM Visit to Vietnam Kicks Off

PHNOM PENH – Prime Minister Hun Manet departed on Dec. 11 in the morning to pay an official two-day visit to Vietnam with discussions about strengthening bilateral trade on top of the agenda.



Hun Manet will hold bilateral meetings with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh. The two leaders will witness the signing ceremony of several documents and preside over a trade and investment forum in Hanoi, said Meas Sophorn, head of the PM communication team.



In addition to Prime Minister Hun Manet, the Cambodian delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, who is also the first deputy chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, Foreign Minister Sok Chenda Sophea, and delegates from the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce.



The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said that bilateral meetings will further push cooperation between the two countries in areas such as education, trade, investment, tourism, culture, security, defense and the defense of boundaries.



During his two-day visit, Hun Manet will meet Vietnam’s Communist Party Chief Nguyen Phu Trong, State President Vo Van Thuong and Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue. 



Cambodia’s PM will also meet Vietnam’s major companies including VietJet Group, Viettel and Vingroup, among others.



Hun Manet will deliver a keynote address on the economic development policy of the Cambodian government and the economic relations between Cambodia and Vietnam at the International Business University in Hanoi, Sophorn said. 



Vietnam is Cambodia’s third-biggest trade partner two-way exchange reaching $5.87 billion in the first 11 months of 2023. Cambodia’s exports to its neighbor topped $2.61 billion over the same period while imports were worth $3.26 billion, according to a report from the General Department of Customs and Excise.

Hun Manet arrived in Hanoi later in the day.
