PM Hun Sen Reportedly Tests Negative for COVID-19

Following immediate contact with the Hungarian Foreign Minister who tested positive for COVID-19 earlier on Nov. 4, Prime Minister Hun Sen’s first test has come back negative.
PHNOM PENH--Prime Minister Hun Sen on Wednesday (Nov. 4) reported that he has tested negative for the COVID-19 following his meeting on Nov. 3 with Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó. The incubation period is believed to stretch up to two weeks, hence the recommended 14-day quarantine period.
“Today health officials have traced and tested those who had contact [with Hungarian Foreign Minister],” said Hun Sen on his official Facebook post. “At my house, there are 18 people including myself, my wife and bodyguards who have tested negative for COVID-19.”
Hun Sen’s announcement came immediately after Szijjártó was reported to have tested positive for COVID-19 in Thailand.
In the same statement, Hun Sen also went on to say that he continues to strictly follow health measures and will undertake a 14-day quarantine period, adding that he has canceled his schedule and will not be seeing people.
“I would like to apologize for not being able to cordially welcome the return of his Majesty the King and the Queen Mother’s arrival from the Republic of China and also accompanies his Majesty to participate in Independence’s Day on November 9, 2020” Hun Sen wrote.
Likewise, the Cambodian government has also ordered all ministers and officials who met with Szijjártó to self-quarantine with as many as nine senior officials believed to have been exposed to the Hungarian Foreign Minister.
