PHNOM PENH – Prime Minister Hun Manet and his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh discussed on Dec. 11 how to deepen cooperation between the two countries.

Hun Manet arrived in Hanoi earlier today for a two-day visit, marking his first official visit to Vietnam since he took office last August. Chinh hosted a welcome ceremony before proceeding to bilateral talks.

Hun Manet posted on his Telegram channel that Chinh congratulated him on being elected as deputy president of the Cambodian People’s Party during the party congress, held in Phnom Penh on Dec. 9-10.

The Vietnamese PM said that through this visit, Cambodia-Vietnam bilateral relations will grow stronger, in line with the spirit of good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term stability.

Chinh said that Cambodia will keep on developing its economy, following the vision of Cambodia 2030 and 2050, which aims at strengthening growth, employment, equity and efficiency.

Hun Manet said that he and Chinh briefed each other on the situation of the two countries in political, social and economic aspects. They also discussed and evaluated the results of bilateral cooperation.

The two leaders also sought to strengthen and expand cooperation in the fields of politics, trade, investment, tourism, health education, connectivity and national security. Border affairs and demarcation, a long-standing issue for both countries, were also discussed.

Hun Manet and Pham Minh Chinh also witnessed the signing ceremony of documents on cooperation in science, technology, innovation, diplomacy and chambers of commerce.

Cambodian PM then met with Nguyen Phu Trong, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, one of the four pillars of the country’s political system. The PM also met Vietnamese State President Vo Van Thuong the same day.
