French NGO, Toutes à l’École, and the Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation (OCIC) have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Phnom Penh to further support the development of underprivileged young women at the Happy Chandara School. This follows an initial MoU in May 2024 that offered OCIC internships to students.
This year's collaboration will broaden its reach to more girls through community engagement, extracurricular activities, and sustainability projects.
"Education is key to creating real opportunities," said Thierry Tea, Vice President of OCIC. "Our partnership with Toutes à l’École reflects our commitment to supporting Cambodian girls as they pursue their dreams."
Toutes à l’École, founded in 2005 by French journalist Tina Kieffer, provides free, high-quality education and healthcare to over 1,700 underprivileged girls, from preschool through high school graduation. This support helps them overcome social and economic obstacles.
The students, primarily from nearby communities, come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Despite these challenges, the school boasts a 100% pass rate on baccalaureate exams, with over 400 students continuing their education in post-baccalaureate programs or pursuing meaningful careers.
"Educating girls isn't just about empowering individuals," said Tina Kieffer. "It's about saving the planet. By investing in their education, we're building a thriving future for Cambodia and protecting our planet."
Toutes à l’École also emphasizes sustainability. At the Happy Chandara campus, students participate in environmental workshops, tend vegetable gardens, and learn in a biodiverse, tree-filled environment. The NGO hopes to inspire a generation of Cambodians dedicated to their country and the planet.
The partnership with OCIC and the Green Oasis initiative enhances these efforts, linking education with practical sustainability actions. The Happy Chandara campus has become a self-sustaining ecosystem, supporting students' families, providing local jobs, and strengthening ties with the surrounding community.
OCIC and Toutes à l’École are dedicated to empowering Cambodia’s next generation through education, sustainability, and opportunity.
