Cases continue to rise sharply in Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh, while Kandal and Siem Reap provinces see slower spreads of COVID-19.

PHNOM PENH--A 62-year-old Cambodian woman has died at Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital on March 23, according to the Ministry of Health. The death certificate listed severe pneumonia and COVID-19 as the cause of the death.

The COVID-19 briefing for March 23 listed 35 new cases—two of which involved Indonesian men who arrived in Cambodia on March 21 and have since tested positive for the virus.

The remaining 33 are locally transmitted and linked to the Feb. 20 community outbreak.

Sihanoukville saw the largest jump in cases, with 15 recorded on March 23, while 13 new patients were identified in Phnom Penh and both Kandal and Siem Reap provinces found two new cases each.

According to the Health Ministry, a further 31 people who caught COVID-19 due to the Feb. 20 outbreak have now recovered, along with one patient who had tested positive for the virus upon arrival to Cambodia. All 32 have been released from care after testing negative for COVID-19 twice.

This brings Cambodia’s total number of cases up to 1,788 since records began. Among them, 999 patients have been discharged while five people have died, leaving 784 active cases in Cambodia.
