PHNOM PENH – Campaigns for capital/province, district, khan elections concluded on May 24, two days before the election on May 26.

The campaign lasted for eight days.

Five political parties are contesting in the non-universal elections: the ruling Cambodian People’s Party the Khmer Will Party, the Nation Power Party, the Funcinpec Party, and the Khmer National United Party.

The ruling CPP held the largest rallies over the course of campaign and is expected to overwhelmingly win the election.

National Election Committee’s spokesperson Hang Puthea said the campaigns went smoothly in an orderly manner.

“Compared to the previous election campaign, this was one of the best campaign activities,” he said.

Puthea said the smoothness of the campaign also showed good co-operation between local authorities and political parties.

11,622 members of commune council will vote for 4,200 provincial, municipal, town, and district councilors.

In 2019, the CPP claimed almost the seat up for grabs.
