Cambodia-Turkey Seek More Economic Ties

PHNOM PENH – Cambodia and Turkey are seeking more economic cooperation as officials met to discuss a feasibility study for economic agreements between the countries.



Tekreth Kamrang, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Commerce in Cambodia, held talks with Husnu Dilemre, the director-general of international agreements and EU affairs of Turkey’s Trade Ministry to discuss the plan.



The online meeting was to promote economic, trade, and investment cooperation and to discuss a feasibility study for an economic partnership, the Commerce Ministry said.



Trade between the countries reached $152 million in 2022, up about 70% on 2021.



Potential exports to Turkey include garments, bicycles, mangoes, longans, rubber, cassava, corn, pepper, rice, organic chemistry and tobacco.



Textiles, machinery and electrical equipment, vehicles and spare parts, and copper objects are all potential imports from Turkey.



Cambodia and Turkey hope to increase trade volume to $1 billion per year by collaborating in areas such as agriculture and scholarships for Cambodian students.



Cambodia has just concluded an agreement with the United Arab Emirates that is expected to open new markets for agricultural and industrial goods.
