PHNOM PENH, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia had exported 656,323 tonnes of milled rice in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 3 percent, the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF) said in a news release on Friday.

The Southeast Asian country earned a total revenue of 466 million U.S. dollars from the export of the commodity, up 13 percent year-on-year, the news release said, adding that the kingdom's rice had been shipped to 61 countries and regions.

China remained the top buyer of the commodity.

Rice varieties the country exported included fragrant rice, organic rice, white rice, parboiled rice, and japonica rice, according to the news release.

Cambodian Minister of Commerce Cham Nimul said late last month that the kingdom is expected to export more rice to China and other countries in 2024.

"The Ministry of Commerce is working to promote and open up markets for our milled rice through the Cambodia-China Free Trade Agreement, the Cambodia-Korea Free Trade Agreement, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement, and the Cambodia-United Arab Emirates Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement," she said at the ministry's annual conference.
