PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia on Friday exported its first batch of milled rice to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), said the country's Minister of Commerce Cham Nimul.

Locally registered Oneroad Group was the exporter of the rice to the UAE, Nimul said, adding that the company had received the purchase order of 60,000 tons worth 54 million U.S. dollars from the UAE side.

"In the first shipment, 500 tons of milled have been exported to the UAE," she said at an event here to mark the export of Cambodian rice to the UAE.

The export came after Cambodia and the UAE signed a bilateral trade agreement in June 2023.

Cambodia had exported a total of 656,323 tons of milled rice to 61 countries and regions in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 3 percent, according to the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF).

The Southeast Asian country made a total revenue of 466 million U.S. dollars from the export of the commodity last year, marking a year-on-year increase of 13 percent, the CRF said.

China and Europe are the major markets for Cambodia's milled rice.
