The commitment was made during a bilateral meeting between Cambodian Foreign Minister Sok Chenda Sophea and his Antigua and Barbuda counterpart, E. P. Chet Greene, who was conducting a working visit to Cambodia.

According to a press statement issued by the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the ministers discussed a wide range of issues, including bilateral diplomatic and economic relations, as well as regional and international issues of common interest and concern.

"The discussion delved into potential trading commodities, particularly rice and cashew nuts, as well as collaboration in tourism and agriculture," the statement read, adding that this highlighted Cambodia's commitment to expanding economic exchange with the Caribbean nation.

Similarly, both ministers emphasized the importance of mutual support at multilateral fora, including various United Nations bodies. Despite the geographical distance, they affirmed their unwavering commitment to further advancing bilateral cooperation for the common benefit of their respective peoples.

During the same meeting, Greene also extended an Sophea to visit Antigua and Barbuda at a convenient time.

Cambodia and Antigua and Barbuda, a country with a total population of around 100,000, established diplomatic relations in 2010. Relations have continued to grow, although trade relations remain low.

As Cambodia seeks to expand its global outreach, Latin America and the Caribbean have also become its strategic focus in diplomatic endeavors. In 2019, Cambodia forged diplomatic relations with Barbados as part of this strategic approach.
