Bus Fleets Deployed for Free Pchum Ben Travel

PHNOM PENH – Phnom Penh Administration will deploy 455 buses for people returning to their hometowns free of charge during the upcoming Pchum Ben festival.



The celebration, to honor the ancestors, is one of the most important Khmer festivals along with Khmer New Year. The event regularly sees an exodus of people working in Phnom Penh to their homelands. 



This year’s Pchum Ben holiday runs from Oct. 13 to 15. The free bus services will run from Oct. 12 to 16.



The administration said 60 city buses would transport people around Phnom Penh and 395 buses would take people from the city to other provinces. 



Twenty buses will be used from Phnom Penh to provinces along National Road 1 such as Kandal, Prey Veng and Svay Rieng. Five buses will transport people on National Road 2 from Phnom Penh to Kandal and Takeo-Phnom Penh. Another 20 buses on National Road No.3 will bring people to Kampot and Kep. 



Fifteen buses will take people along National Road No.4 to Kampong Speu and Sihanoukville while 150 will go to Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang and Banteay Meanchey on National Road 5. 



There will be 120 buses to Siem Reap and 10 to Kampong Thom. 



For people traveling to Kampong Cham and Tboung Khmum, there will be 30 buses and 25 buses for transporting people to Kratie and Stung Treng on National Roads No. 8 and 13.



Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng urged bus operators to keep fares unchanged.
