The victory puts the Angkor Warriors on the top of the group
PHNOM PENH--The Cambodian team on Feb.16 recorded their second victory in the ongoing AFF U23 championship when it defeated the Philippines 1-0.
Midfielder Sin Sovann Makara scored the winning goal in the 81st minute in front of 17,780 spectators.
The Philippine opponents put a lot of pressure on the host from the start, but Cambodia was resilient and held on until late into the game before scoring the lone goal.
The AFF U23 Championship 2022, has seen several withdrawals due to Covid-19 with nine teams left following defending champions Indonesia and Myanmar pulling out due to a large number of the squad infected with Covid.
Cambodia is in group A with Brunei, the Philippines and Timor Leste, and it will play against Timor Leste in the last group game.
